Collection: Jackie Stevenson RSW
Jackie studied Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art before going on to complete a post-graduate teaching certificate. Her work is an interpretation of the effects of light and weather on northern landscapes, mainly in the more remote areas of Northumberland, Cumbria and Scotland. The images she creates are an evocation of a particular place and atmosphere rather than being purely representational.
The paintings are mixed media, built up in layers using collage, sometimes using gesso as a surface. Jackie uses watercolour and combines it with acrylic paint and inks as well as oil pastels. Creating texture and atmosphere in the work is central, resulting in some aspects of the paintings becoming quite abstracted, although still retaining the original elements of the landscape.
Jackie has exhibited widely in galleries, art fairs and exhibitions across the UK, including the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour in London, Paisley Art Institute and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour.
In October 2019 she was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour.
